I’ve noticed on WordPress that if you delete a post, the comments attached to it aren’t deleted as well. I first noticed this because the standard WordPress ‘Recent Comments’ widget was listing comments for a post that I deleted. This results in a 404 because the comments widget links to the post it was attached to. This seems rather problematic in a deep dive, which I will do at some point but for now I can say that it is at least bad UX with regard to the widget, as well as moderation. Why would you want to moderate comments for a post that is long gone?
This may be related to the fact that it was a change in the post type.
